Saddle Stitching

Saddle stitch is one of the most popular binding options used for thin books, catalogs, magazines, and brochures. In saddle stitching, there are folded sheets, collected according to the page order. Generally, there are 2 staples on the spine in saddle stitching, but for large-sized books, there can be multiple staples.

The reason behind the popularity of saddle stitch binding is that it not only cost-effective but also takes less time in production. Moreover, this kind of binding can also be opened flat, making it quite easy for users.

Generally, saddle stitching is used for books that have less than 40 pages, and if the pages are more than 48, you must not use saddle stitching for binding. When compared to perfect binding, saddle stitching won’t save you too much cost if you are getting the printing done in China for the order of less than 500pcs. So, when it comes to binding a thick book or catalog, you must avoid using saddle stitching as it would easily break the book spine.

Perfect Binding

Also known as paperback binding or softcover binding, perfect binding is quite popular for its high-end appeal and affordability. Unlike saddle stitch binding, perfect binding has a spine, which can contain the title or author name.
In perfect binding, the binding is done by using glue on the spine. You must use perfect binding for books that are thick enough to have a spine and not other ways. The perfect binding will cost you almost the same as saddle stitch binding for orders less than 500pcs. The minimum interior page count for perfect binding must be 48, with papers that are thin.

Sewing and Perfect Binding

This type of binding is quite similar to perfect binding, but unlike perfect binding, in this type of binding, sewing is required before gluing the book. Sewing and perfect binding add to the comfort of the reader by allowing the book to lay flat in a stable manner. But relatively, this type of binding costs higher and takes a little longer in production.
This type of binding gives a high-end appeal to the final product and looks really nice. For such type of binding, the minimum interior pages must be 32. But if you want to get this type of binding for 20-24 pages, then we would recommend using a thick 200gsm gloss art or matte art paper. In such cases, you must avoid using any text or logo on the spine.

Hardcover Binding

Hardcover binding not just looks great but also feels good to use. The hardbound book includes 2 thick boards, which are used to wrap the printed cover, end sheet and interior papers.
In this binding, the spine can be square-shaped or round and its thickness will depend on the interior page count. The minimum page count for this binding is 32 pages. Hardcover printing is quite expensive, but orders that run more than 500pcs will relatively be cost-effective for you. Contact us to get a hardcover template for you!

Spiral Binding

Spiral binding or Wire-O binding is commonly used for educational books, calendars, tool catalogues, manuals and music books. The best feature of books with spiral binding is that they can be opened flat.
Where spiral binding is round holed, wire-o binding is square holed. Get in touch to get a spiral binding or wire-o binding printing file template to avoid any mistake while placing your texts and images. Other than these two, we also offer loop stitch binding. Check out the details here.

Wire-O binding

Also termed as double wire binding or twin loop binding, wire-O binding uses double metal wire to bound all the collected interior pages. In this binding, there is a square hole drilled, with many wire color choices for the clients like black, white, silver, etc. This is one of the best methods that you can choose when you want your documents to open all the way to back or lie flat on your desk. This will save a lot of space on your desk as well.
In common, the spiral binding typically uses plastic. The wire binding typically uses metal. The wire binding can bind the book from 16 pages to 400 pages. But the spiral bound book is from 40 pages to 300 pages. The other difference is the wire binding is square holes and the spiral binding is round holes or oval holes.

The spiral bound printing is used in music books and journal. The wire binding printing applies to catalogs, calendars, cookbooks, manuals, education books and so on.
